About

Since our inception, one of our founding principles at Nollie Jenkins Family Center, Inc has been to create spaces of leaning and empowerment across generations without violence. We've always advocated for the elimination of corporal punishment in schools and for more effective alternaives to discipline. In 2012, students apart of our Scholars of Peace Program began addressing violence in our schools and communities and decided that putting an end to corporal punishment in schools was a way to make schools safer and less violent. After many petitions, presentations to the school board and community outreach, corporal punishment was eliminated in the Holmes County School District. Now we are continuing to work to not only eliminate corporal in public schools across Mississippi but replace it with alternatives. NJFC has been joined by Families As Allies, NAACP, Activist With A Purpose, to form the Mississippi Coalition to Eliminate Corporal Punishment.

NOLLIE JENKINS FAMILY CENTER, INC

NJFC’s mission is to empower the citizens of Holmes County. We work to accomplish this by developing and supporting grassroots leaders, community organizers, parents, students, and members of the African American community, as well as community-based organizations in ways that ensure they have the necessary tools/skills of community organizing, advocacy, and activism to increase family engagement, build for meaningful social change, effectively impact local and state policy, family and governance structures, and build stronger/sustainable organizations and communities.
